Sometimes I get lucky and shoot the same couple twice.
I first had the chance to photograph Dingcai and Chiayuen during their solemnization day at Vineyard, Hort Park, a few months before their wedding day. They were the typical young Singapore couple – reserved, shy, and very much, in their own words, ‘incredibly awkward’ in front of the camera (I am too, on the few occassions that I found myself facing a camera on the other side). I was fortunate enough that they managed to put aside their usual-reserved side to express themselves fully during the day.
The second time I photographed them was their traditional wedding day. That day was a simple affair – just loads of family and friends gathering, with good food and booze. As simple as it was, though, it was one which I enjoyed tremendously, as they wore their hearts on their sleeves while having the best day of their lives. The day was layered with emotions, full of warmth and everything that I could ask for.
I am so appreciative of Dingcai and Chiayuen for putting your trust in me, and for having me there on both milestones in life.
Photographing people, connecting the dots, and writing stories that are honest and raw – what better way to experience life than through weddings like these?
